More fun than endless scrolling
Instead of passively scrolling through 500 wedding photos, you actively vote – photo left or photo right? You find the truly best pictures in an hour.
Fair ELO ranking like chess
Each photo has a rating value that rises or falls with every battle. After 100+ votes, a precise popularity ranking of your wedding emerges.
Decision basis for printing
The top 10 from Photo Battle can be used directly for wedding photo book, wall pictures, or thank-you cards. Data-based instead of gut feeling.
When do you play Photo Battle after the wedding?
Right after the wedding (1-2 weeks): memory is still fresh, but you have 2-3 days distance for objective evaluation. Ideal moment. At the after-wedding meeting with witnesses: funny program point for the evening, simultaneously productive (you find the best photos). Before ordering wedding photo book or wall pictures: use the ELO ranking as decision basis for selecting top photos. For thank-you cards to guests: top 3 from Photo Battle as motif for individual thank-you cards. For social media posts: not every photo is suitable for Instagram. Photo Battle filters objectively by 'popular in own group'. Combination 'Which table has the best photo?': divide wedding photos by tables and vote which table had the most beautiful snapshots. Funny competition for witness speeches.
Setup: Start Photo Battle in 2 minutes
Step 1: Your wedding group at ShareMyMoments already exists from photo collection before/during the wedding. If not: create now, free. Step 2: Make sure at least 20-30 wedding photos are in the group. Step 3: In the 'Games' area choose 'Photo Battle'. The system shows two randomly selected wedding photos side by side. Step 4: Click on the better photo (left or right). The next pair comes immediately. The ELO system evaluates in the background. Step 5: After 30-100 battles a clear ranking has formed. In the leaderboard you see the top photos. Important: only registered group members (bridal couple, witnesses, family) can vote. Guests who only uploaded photos don't see the battle – this is intentional. So your Photo Battle stays private and only your inner circle determines the top photos.
How does ELO ranking work?
The ELO system was originally developed for chess and is also known from Tinder. Here's how it works at Photo Battle: Starting value: every new photo gets an ELO value of 1500. Win: if photo A wins against photo B, A gets points – how many depends on the ELO difference. If A wins against a known better photo (higher ELO), there are many points. Against a weaker photo (lower ELO) only a few. Loss: the losing photo loses exactly the points the winner gets. After 50-100 battles, top photos usually have ELO around 1700+, average photos at 1400-1600, less popular under 1400. Advantage over simple voting (thumbs up/down): the ELO system is mathematically robust against voting manipulation. If someone votes 5x for their own photo, this doesn't impact as much as with a simple like count. Important: you need at least 30-50 battles for meaningful values.
Frequently asked questions about Photo Battle Wedding
Can guests participate in Photo Battle?
No, only registered group members can vote. Guests who uploaded photos via QR code don't see the battle – they have no account. Whoever wants to vote, gets invited by the bridal couple as a member (free plan: up to 5 members).
How many wedding photos do I need for meaningful results?
At least 20-30 photos for an interesting battle. With 50+ photos, a more precise ELO ranking emerges. With only 5-10 photos, the game is over too quickly.
Can Photo Battle be manipulated?
Hard. The ELO system is mathematically robust: individual 'self-votes' barely move the top photos. Only with systematic manipulation (50 votes for one photo) does the ranking distort.
What do I do with the top ranking after the battle?
Many options: top 10 for wedding photo book (printing at CEWE or Pixum), top 3 for wall pictures, top 5 for individual thank-you cards. You now have an objective data basis for photo selection.
